Expats

There is a lot around. Talked with ex military type, Nato All over the world. Married an Italian. Kids all over the place. Retired long ago. Sold Bikinis. Here in Mexico again. INteresting stories of the military service. But Catch 22 told the whole story. Like all aside from being a world citizen as we all must be, he ought to be home changing things. We talked of how European multiparty coalition government may now be more effective than our US two party system. G bought a great property overlooking Zipolete. My hip friend emailied on his way to Texas. So grateful was he for a talk. This is a short life. Alpert is right wit Budda, compassion is all. We call it love in christianity and sufism. I want to paint street scenes now like Maurice Utrillo.

The Pacific Coast

President Obama is visiting or visited briefly Mexico. NAFTA in the news after 20 years. Mexico and Canada are the true allies of USA not China, a natural enemy. Remember the Korean War and Mao Tse Tung (his wife author of the Cultural Revolution) who could expend hundreds of thousands of lives so did not have concern about nuclear weapons, So here we are.  Zipoleta  has some drawbacks but Playa de Luna and Playa Estacahuitla are incredibly private wonderful small beaches.  San Augustin just up the road a beautiful long long beach stretdhing so far.  On the horizon or close to it we saw a big whale blow today.  And they are quiet enough to sit and paint  watercolors and great snorkeling with all kinds of fish to see.  Guacomole and beer are fine too. (This area is the home of the Avocado) One gets a taste of the feeling Gauguin must have had and his reasons for departing for the South Seas, finally relaxed despite the devils who assault me and mine in the colder (should be hotter) regions via email in the North.

Puerto Angel

They say Mexico is all dusty roads and sombreros which is still pretty much true in the dry season. When the rains start it is a different story. Anyhow, Puerto Angel one now until rain season can buy wonderful bonitos caught that day for twenty pesos. A meal in itself better than steak. And while Zipoleto beach is a kind of libertine spot there are many small beaches with the surf and beautifully nestled in the mountains for the day, snorkeling, good food, relative privacy. We took the Spray, lots of spray from the ocean out yesterday and came close to a whale, saw scores of Pelicans sometimes flying in formation, gobbling up fish, and perching on great rock formations, flying manteray leaping from the ocean waves. The whale lives in its own environment. it says what are you doing here in my environment, much as the hallucinogenic cactus used in rituals by the Huichol Indians in the north, produce the god of the cactus to those entering this dimension, it is reported, and say “Why are you here? This is our dimension. You have your own…” but if one survives the fear become friendly and talk to you and play tricks. Maria Sabena and Castenada I guess are the authorities. Anyhow, we were in the Ocean world and it is anything but dry. Talked with a guy who has spent five months on the beach, earning a living as guitar player. As all such circumstances it is risky and he has met some bad people … but overall is so grateful for Mexico and its freedom. We discussed how it is difficult to earn enough and after bumming around so long he wishes he had money. And how fundamentals from food on here seem to cost not far from what they do in America but wages are much much lower. This is the economic dilemma of Mexico. In addition to the drug war and cartels we have created by making drugs illegal.
